Freezing up sounds like you may have propane leaking.  Please  leak check the connection and hose with soapy water. You should also turn your tank off and disconnect it from the grill for about 10-15 minutes. After reattaching the tank, turn the valve only one complete rotation, do not turn until it stops.  This causes frost and may also cause the valve to break off.
